Open beta is coming soon. Follow Discord announcements for the opening date and current availability. Some story quests and areas are still being prepared.

Your first evening

Hearthvale combines familiar Minecraft survival with custom equipment, eleven skills, story quests, and cooperative battles. You do not need to learn every system immediately. Start with a small goal: find your way around, earn your first coins, or gather supplies for a village with friends.

  1. Join and accept the resource pack. It supplies the custom models, menus, and sounds. No client mods or special launcher are required.
  2. Open /hearth. Use the home menu to find your character information, adventures, services, and settings.
  3. Check /quests and /respect. These show available stories and the next permanent progression unlocks.
  4. Meet the residents. NPC holograms identify people you can interact with. Right-click to open their conversation or services.
  5. Choose an outing. Use /wild for wilderness gathering and building, or speak to the Captain’s Envoy about Emberwatch.

Your first-join supplies: a Wayfarer pickaxe, axe, hoe, shovel (spade), and sword, plus 16 bread, 12 wheat seeds, 16 torches, and 4 oak saplings. Free starter gear is not sellable. The separate one-time Wayfarer’s Provision offers four armor pieces, a shield, and your choice of sword, axe, or bow; leave six inventory slots free before claiming it.

Story quests are being placed in the new towns. A quest marked unavailable is still being prepared; repeatedly visiting an old location will not unlock it. The quest menu is the place to check current availability.

Joining and the resource pack

Add hearthvalemc.com in Minecraft Java Edition’s Multiplayer menu. Use the server’s supported version, currently Java 26.3. Accept the Hearthvale resource pack when prompted and let it finish loading before interacting with custom features.

The pack is required to play. If you accidentally decline, edit the saved server entry and set Server Resource Packs to Enabled or Prompt, then reconnect. The pack is offered again on a later connection; declining once is not permanent.

Hearthvale’s castle artwork and creature designs are part of its identity, but the handbook’s gameplay information describes the server systems rather than promising that every piece of concept art is a playable location. Check Discord for current opening and maintenance announcements.

Finding your way and unlocking warps

/warps is the central travel menu. Locked destinations are gray; their descriptions tell you what is missing. Hearthvale is available by default. The battlefield warp unlocks after you speak to the Captain’s Envoy and make your first visit through that menu.

Quarry and Lantern Den access are linked to Respect, and some completed quests unlock return warps to their areas. A destination appearing in a guide does not automatically grant its warp. Travel may also be unavailable during combat or an active encounter; follow the in-game message.

Use /spawn to return to the server spawn and /wild to begin a wilderness outing. Public quest towns are preserved locations: you can use doors and authored NPC or quest interactions, but ordinary building, harvesting, and container use are restricted. Head into the wilderness to make your own home.

Town entry titles help you recognize a district. Smaller activity areas such as Quarry and Lantern Den stay silent when you cross their borders, so the lack of a title does not mean the area is missing.

Skills and level 99

Each skill has its own experience and level. Your total level combines all eleven skills, with a maximum of 1,089. Training one skill does not raise the others, and an equipment requirement refers to the skill named on that item.

Mining and Forestry
Gather ores and timber. Use tools appropriate to your skill and the material you are collecting.
Farming and Fishing
Grow and harvest crops, or fish for supplies. These are useful foundations for a settlement and its food supply.
Combat
Fight enemies with usable gear. Eligible damage and kills contribute to training; finishing encounters matters.
Exploration
Develop your character through exploration activities. Follow available discoveries and objectives rather than assuming every movement gives XP.
Cooking
Prepare food and use the available recipes. Some special dishes require quest progress.
Herbalism
Work with gathered ingredients and remedies. This skill has a story unlock.
Smithing
Craft supported tools and equipment recipes after unlocking the skill. Individual recipes still have their own level and ingredient requirements.
Archaeology
Investigate excavation content, collect fragments, and work toward restoration and relic rewards after its story unlock.
Thieving
Unlock at 1,800 Respect, then recover cargo from the Lantern Den’s custom crates.

Skills reach mastery at level 99. Your skill menus show progress and level rewards. Village skill lodges and eligible rank benefits can improve earned XP, while fixed-value rewards such as XP lamps have their own rules. Do not assume every boost multiplies a lamp.

Respect and permanent ranks

Respect is lifetime reputation, separate from spendable coins. Earn it through supported quests, deliveries, donations, and defense activities. Buying something with coins does not spend your Respect. Open /respect to see your progress and benefits.

Respect rank milestones
RankRespectKey benefit
Newcomer0Begin earning reputation

Champion4,00015% provision discount; +2 Respect hearts total

Legend25,00020% provision discount

Provision discounts do not mean every price in every shop is discounted by the same amount. Use the quoted price in the relevant menu. Respect titles appear before your name; paid rank labels are separate and appear after it.

Quests and your tracker

All story quests belong in /quests. Read the description, difficulty stars, requirements, current task, and rewards before setting out. Stars run from one to five and help communicate difficulty; they do not replace an explicit skill or equipment requirement.

Select the quest you want to follow and use a quest tracker compass. /questtracker provides access to the tracker; the compass points toward the next configured task. Hold it in either hand to see the gray italic action-bar directions. Put it away when you want an uncluttered view.

Talk to the named NPC, inspect the indicated object, or reach the marked location as the current task asks. Completing a later-looking action out of order may not advance the story. If the compass destination is in another world, use an unlocked route to get there first; it is navigation, not a teleport.

Completion opens a congratulations book with your quest rewards. Rewards can include coins, Respect, items, skill access, or return warps. Some quest materials are tracked in a personal ledger rather than appearing in inventory.

A Watch Renewed reduces the wallet penalty on death from 15% to 10%. A Thorn in the Heart involves earning a bound Briarheart Dagger and using it against its quest-specific Sentinel. Follow the quest’s current briefing: an ordinary stronger sword cannot replace that ritual weapon.

Equipment, durability, and Doran

Hearthvale’s custom weapons, armor, and tools have tiers and skill requirements. Read the tooltip for the required skill, level, durability, and relevant stats. A higher-tier item can be unusable until you train enough; appearance alone is not a reason to equip it.

The item field guide lists equipment and sources. Open an item’s interactive entry to inspect its model, stats, and drop information. Drag to rotate, scroll or pinch to zoom, or use the viewer’s buttons and keyboard controls.

Doran repairs and upgrades equipment. Check the item and the quoted coin cost before confirming. Repairing restores condition; upgrading improves supported properties of that item. Costs depend on its tier, the upgrade type, and the upgrade level, so a late upgrade costs more than a basic improvement.

Check your gear before a long fight and use Doran’s battlefield service between pushes when appropriate. Broken gear needs attention; switching to another item does not repair it. Free provision or bound quest equipment can have resale restrictions even when a similar normal item is sellable.

Shopping, selling, and crafting

/shop separates the equipment store from the categorized items store. The items store covers resources, farming supplies, and other supported goods. Read the buy and sell prices: resale is deliberately much lower than purchase price.

  • Left-click: buy one.
  • Right-click: sell one eligible item.
  • Shift-left-click: buy a stack where supported.
  • Shift-right-click: sell a stack where supported.

For equipment, the same buy/sell controls apply, but equipment’s normal stack limits still matter. An item can be sellable even if the store does not offer it for purchase. Bound, free, or otherwise restricted items may be refused. Check the displayed quote and keep enough inventory space before a large purchase.

/recipes shows crafting options, and /forge provides the supported forging route. Recipes may require a skill unlock, a level, ordinary ingredients, ledger materials, and a suitable station. Owning the ingredients does not bypass a station or quest requirement.

The crafted Wayfinder’s Compass requires Smithing level 1 once Smithing is unlocked. Special recipes, foods, remedies, and relics have distinct effects and cooldowns; consult their item entries instead of treating every custom item as a cosmetic reskin.

Coins, banking, and death

Use /coins or /money to check your wallet and current interest rate. Coins pay for supplies, equipment care, battlefield services, and village upgrades. Respect is a separate reputation total.

Some eligible ranks provide interest on existing saved bank coin balances, tied to online time. New coin deposits are unavailable. A displayed rate of zero means you do not currently have an applicable interest perk. This is not a promise of offline income; inspect your current rank benefits and the in-game balance information.

/bank and /vault open the permitted storage-bank service when you have access. The bank accepts items, with no coin-deposit option. Any coins deposited before this change remain yours: use /bank withdraw <amount|all> to move them back into your wallet. Item storage is personal, separate from a village inventory.

Death normally costs 15% of your wallet. Completing A Watch Renewed lowers that to 10%. Plan purchases and dangerous outings accordingly. Item retention and other death behavior are separate from this coin penalty; do not rely on staff-only recovery commands.

The Quarry

Everyone can enter the Quarry, but mining there requires 600 Respect at Regular rank. Visiting the region and having permission to mine it are different checks. Use the travel menu to see whether its warp is available to you.

Mine designated quarry ores using suitable equipment. Quarry ore regenerates as ore rather than turning permanently into ordinary stone. Regeneration is timed, so move to another node while a mined block recovers. Skill level and tool requirements still apply.

The Quarry is a configured activity area inside a preserved world. Its mining allowance does not grant permission to break nearby town decorations, dig tunnels, or dismantle the surrounding build. If an expected ore does not recover, report the location rather than repeatedly altering the area.

Thieving in the Lantern Den

Thieving unlocks at 1,800 Respect. Buy the Lantern Guild Lockpick for 40 coins inside the configured Den. It is reusable and does not need replacing after every attempt. Ordinary players should use Survival mode for crate recovery.

  1. Hold the lockpick in your main hand.
  2. Right-click a crate you have the level to attempt.
  3. Stand still for the attempt. Looking around is fine; moving, changing the held item, or taking damage cancels it.
  4. On success, collect the activity rewards and wait seven seconds before starting another successful recovery cycle.
Lantern Den crate tiers
CrateLevelAttemptBase coins / XP
Weathered Cargo Crate14 seconds12 / 50
Ironbound Strongbox255 seconds24 / 90
Azure Guild Chest506 seconds45 / 150
Gilded Lantern Vault757 seconds75 / 220

Base rewards can improve with progression. Attempts are not guaranteed to succeed; a slip costs half a heart and has a three-second retry delay. The success cooldown is shared across crates, so switching to a neighboring crate does not bypass it. The Den’s crates are authored activity props, not ordinary containers to take home.

Emberwatch battlefield

Speak to the Captain’s Envoy for your first battlefield visit, then use its unlocked warp for later trips. Read the entrance hologram and open the battle menu to understand the current defense.

Enemies attack the village outside the gates before pushing toward the fort. Help defend the outer approaches instead of waiting for every enemy to reach the castle. The boss bar tracks the wave, remaining attackers, and defense condition; field objectives and lost buildings appear on screen.

Recruit swordsmen, support the defense with upgrades, and repair the fort between waves when repairs are available. The outer village is not currently repairable. Check active upgrades and prices in the battle menu before spending. Doran is available for equipment maintenance, and Mason’s supply cache requests battlefield-related drops.

Waves become harder, and a captain arrives every five waves. Later captains gain more health, so plan for longer fights. With friends, divide attention between enemies threatening buildings, the current field objective, and fort maintenance. These are useful responsibilities, not fixed class restrictions.

Custom mobs and boss encounters

Use /mobs for the in-game drop-table menu or browse the website’s creature field guide. Entries explain supported drops and encounter requirements. A listed drop is a chance unless explicitly described as guaranteed.

Some encounters require eligible participation or personal damage to receive credit. Being nearby is not always enough. Boss-specific mechanics, such as a required ritual weapon, take priority over raw equipment strength. Learn the current encounter’s instructions before committing valuable supplies.

The visual catalog includes custom animals, ground enemies, flying creatures, and bosses. A model being documented does not mean it naturally spawns in every world or that its quest is enabled. Follow active content and authored encounters rather than searching indefinitely for an unavailable spawn.

Create a wilderness village

A player village is your own protected settlement in the wilderness, separate from public quest towns such as Hearthvale or Silvermere. Use /wild to find a suitable location, then /village create to begin. Existing claims, world restrictions, and available space can prevent creation or expansion.

/village opens the village menu; /village help lists its commands. The older /homestead name remains an alias. Use /village border to inspect your protection before laying out farms or streets.

Owners manage upgrades and trusted residents. /village trust <player> grants resident access and /village untrust <player> removes it. Trust people carefully: this is building access, not simply a friend list. Resident capacity can increase as the settlement grows.

Set the settlement’s return point with /village sethome while standing safely inside it. Use /village home to return. This shared village route is separate from personal homes and does not require Guardian rank.

Upgrades grant services and benefits; they do not paste a premade town over your buildings. Plan and construct your own houses, paths, farms, and meeting places.

Village upgrades and shared progress

The village menu organizes upgrades into six groups. Read each upgrade’s current level, next benefit, Town Hall prerequisite, and coin quote. Several tracks have multiple levels, and prices rise as you develop them.

  • Infrastructure: develop the Town Hall and expand protected land. Expansion must still fit neighboring claims and the world border.
  • Community: grow resident capacity, add a noticeboard, customize heraldry, and use visitor or landmark features.
  • Services: unlock convenient village workstations and storage access. The vault service opens a personal Ender Chest, not a communal chest.
  • Production: improve supported fuel use, cooking, and irrigation.
  • Comforts: unlock local benefits such as supported movement, lighting, or protective effects while their conditions apply.
  • Skill lodges: improve earned experience in the corresponding skill for eligible residents.

Choose upgrades around what your group actually does. A farming settlement benefits from different early investments than a group preparing for combat. Local village effects and earned-XP bonuses are separate systems; their descriptions explain where and when each applies.

Landmarks help navigate a growing settlement. Use the village menu and /village help to find the available landmark commands and capacity. Additional rank perks can modify capacity or upgrade discounts, but do not remove the village’s normal ownership rules.

Personal homes and supporter benefits

Personal /home and /sethome unlock at Guardian, 10,000 Respect. They are different from /village home. Use /sethome for a default return point, or /sethome <name> for a named one when your capacity allows it; return with /home <name>.

Guardian provides the base personal home slot. Eligible paid ranks can increase the number of saved homes after that unlock. Location and travel restrictions still apply; the ability to save a home does not mean every activity world accepts one.

Supporter ranks can include convenience commands, cosmetics, kits or rewards, more health, online-time interest, Doran discounts, and village benefits. The active rank and its permissions determine what you can use. Check the rank comparison for current details; the store remains a preview without checkout.

Paid rank labels appear as suffixes, and their name colors are separate from Respect prefixes. Respect hearts are earned through reputation, while rank health benefits have their own totals. Higher ranks are not a reason to ignore skill requirements on equipment.

Voting, XP lamps, and collections

/vote opens five voting-site choices. Use your exact Minecraft username on the voting site so the reward can reach the right account. Each accepted vote currently rewards 50 coins and an XP lamp (100 XP normally, 250 XP from Steward, or 500 XP at Legend; paid ranks offer 250–1,000 XP, with the highest eligible amount used). The planned vote-key/crate system is not the current reward.

Vote lamps stack, but you use one at a time. Lamps are physical, tradable items: whoever holds a valid lamp can use it. Other lamps can carry different XP amounts, so read the value before consuming one.

Right-click a lamp, choose an unlocked skill, and confirm. The full XP amount must fit below the skill cap. A lamp does not automatically unlock a gated skill, and cancelling the selection does not spend it.

Collections provide longer-term goals alongside quests and levels. Their menu shows progress and the reward after an unlock. Rewards can vary by collection; check the actual entry rather than assuming every collection pays the same coins, Respect, or XP benefit.

Settings, Hiscores, and community

Open /settings to manage available presentation preferences, including the sidebar scoreboard. The sidebar provides quick character information and shows your most recently trained skill; it is not a separate quest tracker. Music, effects, and other available preferences can be adjusted in the settings menus.

Hiscores defaults to total level and offers individual skill tabs. When players reach the same level, the earlier recorded achievement ranks higher. Historical levels whose arrival time was never recorded may not have a timestamp.

Use /discord or the community invitation to meet players, read announcements, and report problems. When reporting a gameplay issue, include the feature, what you tried, the message you received, and the approximate location or time. Avoid posting private account information.

For a player conduct issue, use /report <player> <reason>. Give staff a clear description. Chat protection discourages spam and server advertising; keep chat useful and welcoming.

Common questions and quick fixes

Why is a warp gray?

Its progression or first-visit requirement has not been met, or the destination is not ready. Read its description in /warps. Completing a quest only unlocks the return routes included in that quest’s rewards.

Why can’t I mine in the Quarry?

Check for 600 Respect, a suitable tool, and a designated quarry ore. Entering the area alone does not unlock mining, and nearby town blocks remain protected.

Why won’t a crate start?

Check Survival mode, 1,800 Respect, the crate’s Thieving level, a lockpick in your main hand, and the shared cooldown. Stand close enough and stay still during the attempt.

Where did a quest ingredient go?

Some ingredients and boss tokens are ledger resources rather than inventory items. Check quest progress and the relevant material or exchange menu before assuming the reward was lost.

Why can’t I sell this item?

It may be bound, a free provision, unsupported by that store, or otherwise restricted. The equipment shop and items shop handle different goods.

Why isn’t my quest progressing?

Read the current task, ensure the quest is enabled, and interact with its configured actor or object. Hold your tracker for directions. Report missing actors or unreachable targets with the quest name and current step.

Why are textures missing?

Check that the required server resource pack downloaded and loaded successfully. Reconnect with Server Resource Packs enabled. Report persistent missing textures with an item or mob name and a screenshot.
